Last weekend we had two pinewood derby races. The Cub Scouts had their race on Friday night and then this year the Girl Scouts decided to do a Daddy, Daughter activity and have a derby, so Nicole got to make a car and race too.
Here is a picture of Jeremy's car. The lighting in this picture makes it look lighter than it is. It is really a dark, navy blue metallic color. He named it the Metallic Dragon.
Here we are waiting for the race to start. Brian was the pulled the lever that set the cars in motion.
We raced with just our ward and we had 16 boys participate. These are the cars. I think there was still one missing when I took this picture.
These are the awards that we made to give out that night. We got the idea from another ward. We had seen their set up the night before and thought that these trophies were fun, so we gathered all the materials and a member of our bishopric put them together the night before the race (kind of like some of the cars that got finished the night before or night of the race)
Here is Jeremy's car getting ready to race. He ended up in 6th place overall. We had a few technical difficulties, so we didn't get to run the race quite like we wanted to, but I think everyone still had fun.
Now to Nicole's race.
Her car is the pink one.
There were a few more cars in her race. Overall there were 175 cars raced that day. They competed as Daisies, Brownies, Juniors, etc. So they had trophies for 1st, 2nd and 3rd in those divisions and then they had 1st, 2nd and 3rd overall.
Nicole's car is on the right, getting ready to race.
Her car ended up being faster than Jeremy's car. She ended up getting 4th in the Brownies division (she missed 3rd by 2 hundreths of a second) and 12th overall.
Her friend got 1st in the Brownies division. Here is a picture of her with her trophy.
Her car was really cute. She made it look like an ice cream sandwich with a bite out of it.
Here they are together with their cars.
Overall we had a fun weekend, but we are glad that we get a break from it next year as Jeremy will be moving into Boy Scouts in the Fall.
